Women of '72

News & Musings Archive

Where we started….

Originally called “Connections, Challenges, Celebrations,” this page began with a lovely reminiscence from Pam Lloyd that perfectly set the tone for the entire women’s section of the website – and indeed for how we have evolved in recent years as Women of ’72.

Pam fondly recalls that her father Ed Lloyd, ’42 never missed a single Reunion, bringing his family back to Princeton every year. Pam saw first-hand what wonderful camaraderie he enjoyed with his classmates, all along thinking somewhat wistfully, how lucky he was to have so many friends in his class – not quite what she had experienced. Until one day, she voiced those thoughts to her Dad and he exclaimed, "For heaven's sake, you don't think I knew all those people when I was a student, do you?! That’s why you go to Reunions—to meet people you didn’t get to know when you were in school!”

Indeed, for many, many of us, the Princeton friendships that now enrich our lives have come only in the years since we left campus. We were so few in numbers that our paths as students often simply didn't cross. And then there's that time's passing effect. We've grown as adults along some unique and wonderful paths that open up so many new possibilities for common ground. Think of this page as an open map to exploring some of those.

Czech Republic adventures and memories
May 2018

Pam Lloyd, Chris Loomis and Daryl had the immeasurable pleasure of experiencing the Class of '72 "grand tour" of the Czech Republic led by our own beloved Helena Novakova.  (Two other Princeton women were also on the trip – Mara Melum '73 and Ronnie-Gail Emden '74.)  For all 38 fortunate participants in the two–week trek through Prague, other beautiful Czech cities and towns, mountains and countryside, it was magical.  Helena spent a year, and gave heart and soul, to planning every detail of our itinerary, sharing with all of us her unique family history and love of her magnificent home country.  We are deeply grateful.  The trip is well documented elsewhere on the class website.  We promise it will be worth your time to visit there, read, and partake a bit in this very special, unique experience that we owe to Helena.
