72’s Roaring 40th May 31-June 3, 2012 |
From Class President, Bill deGolian:
March, 2012
Greetings Mates!
Our roaring 40th, now only two (2) months away, is shaping up to be our best Reunion ever. I hope you are onboard and that you will join in supporting our community service initiatives. (Webmaster note: Please scroll down for a 40th Reunion heads up from Fritz and Robby.)
20/20 for the 40th! Recycle your Cycles!
We are partnering with the new graduates, Class of 2012, to do community service. Bring your old eyeglasses to campus! If you are driving to Reunions, donate an old bicycle. New Eyes for the Needy and Boys and Girls Clubs are marvelous national service organizations. We are proud to support their good work; we need to get behind this in a big way! Scroll down to view the explanatory flyer.
Class Questionnaire – April 10 to 25, 2012. (Updated Information below. 5/20/12)
Now completed. Larry Kurtz is preparing a page of results for inclusion in Reunions Welcome packets. Selections are likely to appear on the signs Merc Morris is preparing for the P-rade. And you may hear a few choice items from the reviewing stand as we enter Poe/Pardee Field. The complete results will also be posted to our Class Web site immediately after Reunions.
Photos – Undergraduate Years.
There is a marvelous trove of photographs from our undergraduate years on the Class website. You need to take a look! Here's the
link. (When you get to the page, click on the "Archive" box in the top right corner and select "College" from the drop-down menu. It's near the bottom of the archive list. Double-click on a thumbnail image to view a larger version.) These photos are quite easy to access and you will enjoy scrolling through them. They bring back the flavor of our undergraduate days well. We want to add to the album and encourage you to submit pictures you might have from those years.

To begin actually updating your information, or to read and search the 40th Reunion Class Book, click here: http://www.princeton72.org/ybe/ybe.asp ("YBE" stands for the "Yearbook Explorer" app.) You will need to be registered here at the Class of 1972 site to use this feature. (You will find instructions on first registering with TigerNet in Fritz and Robby's report below.) To view even more classmate pictures, hosted at Google's Picassa site, click here: http://www.princeton72.org/dynamic.asp?ID=picassacollections.
Register for Our 40th Reunion.
If you have not yet registered for the 40th, by all means do so! About 172 Classmates have registered thus far (See the scrolling list on the right side of the Class website home page. It includes both online and paper registrations.). And with their spouses and children, the registration total now stands at 326. (April 23, 2012). Clearly, it's going to be a heck of a party!
It is so easy to access the Class website and follow the prompts. (Or click
here!) The website has a wealth of information not only about our Reunion, but Reunions and Princeton generally. The many links there easily get you to the information you need.
As we look to our 40th Reunion, I note the extraordinary level of participation in Class trips we have taken over the years. We have embarked on 15 trips since 2000. Sallie Wright has calculated that 132 Classmates, along with spouses, family members and friends (easily 350 of ‘72's extended family) have joined in these remarkable outings. I doubt that any class anywhere (especially 40 years out) can boast of that level of engagement.
With great expectation, I look forward to seeing you at the best old place of all for our Roaring 40th. All Aboard!
Bill deGolian

Driving to Reunions and have an old bicycle you no longer need? Help us help the Boys & Girls Club of Trenton & Mercer County by donating your bicycle to the Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange.
We will have a drop-off location during Reunions near the Wawa by the Dinky Station. Tax donation forms will be available. To help with planning, please email Barbara Julius '72 (bmjulius@gmail.com) by May 25 if you will be donating your bicycle(s) or if you have questions. Barbara will also give you final details about the drop-off location.
What is the Boys and Girls Club?
The Boys & Girls Club is an organization with a national footprint that is recognized as a leader in giving at-risk young people a safe and welcoming after-school haven for learning and personal growth. The Boys & Girls Club of Trenton & Mercer County provides academic enrichment and recreational activities to more than 2,300 youths in the Greater Mercer County area through after-school, weekend, and summer programs. The Trenton Club has an extraordinary record of promoting academic success among its members: nearly 100 percent of its senior class members graduate from high school on time and more than 80 percent are accepted into college, technical, or trade school.
Since opening in 2009, the Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange has raised more than $100,000 to support after-school programs while providing environmentally-friendly, low-cost transportation opportunities to the local community. The Bike Exchange is run totally by volunteers who repair donated bicycles and sell them at modest prices. Bike drives sponsored by businesses and civic organizations are the primary source of used bicycles.

'72 is partnering with the Class of 2012 in this joint effort.
Congratulations graduates and thanks! |
40th Reunion Details from Fritz and Robby
When: May 31 to June 3, 2012.
Where: Brown-Dod quadrangle (joined by the satellite classes of 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1974).
How to Register:
If you are already registered here at the Class of 1972 Web site, click
here to register for the 40th.
If you are not yet registered at the Class site, you will need to first register with TigerNet, the University's alumni site. (Since TigerNet updates our site's database once a week, you may have to wait a week after registering with TigerNet. Our class's data comes in Tuesday evening and is processed at 2:30 AM on Wednesday.) Then come back here and click on "First-time Sign Up" in the top right corner of the main screen. (Over two thirds of the Class is already registered at TigerNet, so, of course, you'll be in good company.)
If you have any difficulties at all with Internet-related matters, contact Webmaster Alfred Glossbrenner at
alfred@firecrystal.com or by phone at 215-736-1213. Also, please note that registering here at the Class of 1972 site is now a lot easier. You no longer need to locate and enter your alumni ID number. First name, last name, and e-mail address is all it takes.
Reunion Registration Fees:
-
Classmate $500 full—(Saturday-only fee $250)
-
Spouse/guest $400 full—(Saturday-only fee $200)
-
Children (each) $100 full—(Saturday-only fee $50)
The registration fee includes meals, beverages, costumes, entertainment, staff, etc., etc., etc. (Reunion budgets have been basically the same for over 10 years, and we are trying to keep our costs at the low end of those budgets.)
Costume Details:
Please remember to bring your 25th Reunion blazer with you to our 40th.(Like the paper registration form you received in the mail, the online registration form asks for polo shirt, hat, and children's tee shirt sizes. You might want to have that information near at hand if it isn't in your head.)
Class Book:
The class book has gone electronic, thus eliminating the costs associated with a paper-and-ink publication! It's all based on the profile information you enter here at the Class Web site. Your profile can include contact information, information about your kids (and grandkids!), color pictures, a personal essay, and much more. And, of course, it can be updated whenever you like.
To make it as easy as possible for you to view the Class Book, we have added a feature called "Yearbook Explorer." Please click here to give it a try:
www.princeton72.org/ybe/ybe.asp. If you have not yet logged on to this Web site, you will be prompted to do so. The first entry you'll see will be from your own profile. You can update your Profile from Yearbook Explorer, or you can go to the Class "Directory" by clicking on that link in the left menu and click on "Profile.” (Or just click
here.)
For easy-to-follow instructions on how to update your 40th Reunion Class Book entry, please click
here.
Housing:
As always, on-campus housing will be in great demand and in short supply. If you elect to stay in a dorm, please indicate how many beds you need on the online (or paper) registration form. Beds are limited to Classmates and their immediate families with a cap of 4 beds. The cost per person for on-campus housing is $150.
Please remember to bring 2 personal checks to cover linen charges (if you don't bring your own linens) and a key deposit (returnable). The sooner you register, the better chance you have for getting all the beds you need.
Schedule:
Our 40th Reunion will officially begin at noon on Thursday, May 31, 2012. Thursday's dinner will be on-site. It will be a casual buffet followed by coffee and other after-dinner drinks as well as light music conducive to conversation.
Our Class Meeting and Memorial Service will be held on Friday afternoon in 101 McCormick Hall (the Art Museum); the Reverend John Kidd has agreed to officiate. Our traditional Class Dinner will follow at the Boat House. Saturday will be a family day highlighted by the P-Rade and an informal buffet dinner at the Reunion site prior to the annual fireworks display.
On Sunday we will have an off-site brunch.
Activities:
Ron Brown is working closely with the University to include Classmates on various panels and forums during Reunions.(Once the program schedule has been finalized, you will find a copy here at our Class Web site.)
We will also offer wine and food tastings during our 40th, and we are working to put together a set of seminars dealing with age-appropriate (read: "retirement") issues.
We will also arrange a tour, or tours, of the campus so that we can re-acquaint ourselves with the old campus and see first-hand the many additions of recent years.
Pam Lloyd Coulter, Daryl English, Christine Loomis Wavpotich, and Barbara Julius are organizing a Woman's Luncheon for Friday afternoon.Details will follow, but this has become a popular event over the past several Reunions.
Entertainment:
Rest assured that there will be great dance music for those of us who are still capable. As indicated earlier,Thursday night will offer low-key café style entertainment. For Friday we have booked the
Soul Cruisers (This is a fantastic soul band that we found at a local Trenton hotspot—true! Click
here for photos, details, and sound samples. As you will see, they are a "trumpet-playing band." For Saturday night we have the ever-popular
Party Dolls (You'll find lots of information, photos, and sample album cuts here:
www.partydolls.com.)
In the meantime, please register as soon as possible. We hope to see you in May!
Sincerely,
Fritz Cammerzell and Jim Robinson
P. S. Three closing notes. First, please do update your directory profile entry here at the Class site, even if you do not plan on goin' back for the 40th. We're certain that, like most of us, you have referred to the Class Book from the 25th many times over the years. Well, as we said, the Class Book is now on this site--and it needs to be brought up-to-date. Click here to go to the Class Yearbook Explorer feature:
www.princeton72.org/ybe/ybe.asp
Second, please pay your Class Dues. We won't bore you with the standard pitch. You already know that this is important. And really, what's $50 a year in the general scheme of things? You can pay your dues by simply clicking here:
Pay Class Dues.
Third, thanks to Ed Strauss, hard-working Bringer of Class Notes for lo these many years and Class Logo Creator. Classmates with any sailing or naval experience will have little trouble translating the signal flags shown on Ed's "40th Tiger" ballcap.
