The Way We Were...
Thirty Women of ’72 – that’s almost half our total number! – contributed to shaping and informing the women’s essays that represent us collectively in the ’72 50th Reunion yearbook. You were incredibly generous with your time and energy in writing vignettes and reflections about our student years; responding with grace and humor to our Women of ’72 survey** questions; and participating in “memory excavation” Zooms in April 2021.
Our stories together paint a vivid picture of Princeton in transition, reflecting a transformative time for all of us. They are indeed part of our collective memory. Space constraints in the printed yearbook challenged co-editors Daryl and Janet to distill more than 30 pages of magnificent content you provided into the 3,000 word Tales From the Frontier essay published there. To preserve what you wrote in all its rich detail, the compilation of your unabridged stories is published here, along with a summary and highlights of your survey responses.
These compilations have also been donated to the Class of 1972 digital records in the University Archive (Mudd Manuscript Library), where they will reside in perpetuity.
AND (drum roll perhaps?) the pièce de resistance! Our essays in the printed yearbook are available here as well -- in PDF form for easier access when you can’t take the printed book with you! That includes Judith’s magnificent chronicle of events that ultimately opened Princeton’s doors to us all those years ago.

Our Part in the Revolution
** We owe special thanks to the Women of '71 and Robbie Wyper Shell, who wrote the women's story for the Class of '71 50th Reunion class book, for their kind permission to use and adapt their survey questionnaire as Part B of our own.
